Plate buckling under compression

BucklingIn development

Critical stress of a compressed rectangular plate

Source:
Timoshenko & Gere, Theory of Elastic Stability
Tolerance:
5%

Problem statement

Geometry
Thin rectangular plate a × b × t, loaded edges of width b.
Material
Linear-elastic isotropic material, E and ν.
Boundary conditions
Uniform in-plane compression; simply supported on all four edges (SSSS).
Measured quantity
σcr = k·π²E/[12(1−ν²)]·(t/b)²; k = 4.0 for a long SSSS plate.

Script

Lands with the scripting engine (see Documentation) — this setup will be runnable from commands, no manual rebuild needed.
