Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 14, 2026
This policy explains what data WebCAE ("we", "us") collects when you visit webcae.com or use our forms, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.
Data we collect
We collect only what you choose to give us, and what's needed to run the site.
- Contact form: name, work email, company (optional), and your message.
- Early access / newsletter sign-up: your email address.
- WebCAE account registration: your email address and account security metadata needed to create and protect your account.
- Usage analytics: pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and referring site — collected via Google Analytics, only after you accept analytics cookies.
- Server logs: IP address and request metadata, collected automatically by our hosting provider for security and reliability.
- Desktop app telemetry: OS type, app version, license tier (trial / active), days remaining, and a pseudonymous device identifier (HWID). Your IP address is used transiently to derive an approximate country/region and is not stored in our database.
Why we process it
- To reply to your message and answer questions about WebCAE.
- To notify you about Early Access, product updates and — if you opted in — our newsletter.
- To understand how visitors use the site and improve it.
- To keep the site secure and operating correctly.
Legal basis
Where GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Your consent — for account registration, the contact form, Early Access sign-up, and analytics cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Our legitimate interest — for the basic server logs needed to keep the site secure and running, and for the anonymous desktop app telemetry described above (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can opt out of telemetry at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data. We use a small number of processors to run the site:
- Telegram (Telegram FZ-LLC) — delivers form submissions to our internal chat.
- Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC) — website analytics, only with your consent.
- Our hosting provider — serves the site and keeps basic request logs.
International transfers
These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers offer, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
Messages and email addresses sent through our forms are kept for as long as we need them to follow up with you, and no longer than 24 months unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
Analytics data is kept for the retention period configured in our Google Analytics account.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Ask us to delete your data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent at any time — for cookies, use the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Cookies
We use essential cookies/local storage needed for the site to function (such as remembering your language and your cookie choice), and — only with your consent — analytics cookies from Google Analytics.
You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
Desktop app telemetry
When you run WebCAE Desktop and an internet connection is available, the app automatically sends a small telemetry payload to webcae.com. This payload contains: operating system type, app version, license status (trial or active), tier name, approximate days remaining, and a pseudonymous device identifier (HWID — a hardware fingerprint that cannot be reversed to personally identify you).
Your IP address is received by our server and used only to derive an approximate country or region. It is not written to our database.
The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in understanding product adoption and improving software quality (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
You can disable telemetry at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy. Telemetry is sent at most once per session, and only when the device has an active internet connection.
Telemetry data is retained for up to 24 months and is then deleted.
Children
WebCAE is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We'll update the date above when we do.
