Straight fin with adiabatic tip

Thermal conductionIn development

Conduction–convection along a fin, closed-form solution

Source:
Analytical heat conduction (Incropera)
Tolerance:
2%

Problem statement

Geometry
Straight fin of length L and uniform cross-section (perimeter P, area A_c).
Material
Isotropic thermal conductivity k; convection coefficient h on the lateral surface.
Boundary conditions
Fixed base temperature T_b; insulated (adiabatic) tip; ambient T∞.
Measured quantity
Temperature profile cosh[m(L−x)]/cosh(mL) and heat rate Q = √(hPkA_c)·θ_b·tanh(mL).

Script

Lands with the scripting engine (see Documentation) — this setup will be runnable from commands, no manual rebuild needed.
