Jaw Crusher Movable Swing Jaw (900×600)

Heavy-duty mineral rock crushing force structural verification and rib grid stiffness optimization for mining machinery.

Jaw crushers subject their primary swinging jaw to cyclically repeating crushing peak forces exceeding 1.8 MN when breaking hard basalt or iron ore. The heavy casting combines an upper eccentric bearing pivot barrel, a lower thrust toggle plate reaction groove, and a stiffened waffle backing plate. FEA simulation proves that the box-section ribs distribute bending stresses evenly and prevent fatigue cracks from developing around the eccentric shaft eyes.

1. Geometry & FEA Mesh

  • •High-strength low-alloy cast steel 35GL / ZG35SiMn (E = 200 GPa, ν = 0.30, yield strength 355 MPa).
  • •Heavy cast swing body (1,450 mm height, 920 mm width) with 4×3 waffle pattern stiffening rib grid of 35 mm wall thickness.
  • •Upper Ø220 mm bored cylindrical pivot barrel and lower machined toggle plate seating trough.
  • •High-density tetrahedral mesh containing 211,300 elements and 165,400 active degrees of freedom.

2. Loads & Boundary Conditions

  • •Pinned cylindrical constraint on the inner bearing bore of the upper eccentric shaft barrel.
  • •Contact planar compression restraint on the bottom groove accommodating the toggle reaction plate.
  • •Distributed crushing force of 1.80 MN (acting at 75° inclination) applied over the lower third contact zone of the corrugated front plate.

3. Simulation Results & Findings

  • ✓Peak von Mises stress σ_vm = 90.8 MPa situated at the lower intersection fillet of the central vertical stiffening rib.
  • ✓Maximum displacement magnitude |u| = 0.127 mm located near the center of the front crushing plate.
  • ✓Safety factor SF = 3.91 against yield, delivering high fatigue endurance under harsh cyclical impact loads.
Enterprise & Engineering Workflow

Mining machinery manufacturers verify large castings directly in WebCAE to prevent brittle field failures under uncrushable tramp metal events. Engineers evaluate stiffener layouts in seconds in the web viewport before committing tens of tons of steel into foundry molds.
